It felt almost unfair that I got to photograph Jessica and Max’s wedding.
This was the sort of wedding that would make anyone love weddings again … which feels unfair because I already love weddings.
Wedding days are amazing not just because a new family is being born, but because it’s being celebrated. A wedding is more than the ceremony, it’s also the turning around and saying “Hey everyone, we did it! Let’s party!” Those bonds — the bonds between a couple and their friends — are also a crucial part.
And the bonds of friendship and community that Max and Jessica share are astonishingly deep, so deep that it affected me not just as a photographer, but as a person. When I see Max or Jessica hold their friends so tight they seem to be sharing a soul, I see someone doing friendship right.
Some of this comes from the tight-knit communities they found at Camp Kinder Ring, a Jewish day camp in the Hudson Valley. Some comes from their life and practices, and the tight-knit community Jessica has found as a midwife. But it was absolutely incredible to witness, and I’m so happy to share it with you!
