Kirsten and Max presented me with some unique challenges right from the start. They had a wonderful venue for their intimate wedding, Fort Greene’s Maison May. Better yet? Say Yes: Wedding SOS was interested in their story, and would help them make the entire thing reality-show-fabulous. The only problem? Maison May couldn’t set up for a film crew. So, could I shoot an intimate wedding ceremony around a full reality show staff when they, at the time, had nowhere to get married?
You bet.
The wedding was in late November, so frolics in the park probably couldn’t be counted on. After a good deal of searching they found the historic Akwaaba Mansion in Stuyvesant Heights to get ready and get married. It was a small contingent of close family and friends, all helped along by style expert George Kotsiopoulos and a full crew.
One of the most important rules about photography: anything outside the frame doesn’t exist. The moments of intimacy and joy are totally real, pure Kirsten and Max, but there is a lot of creative chaos hovering inches outside each frame.
Which, I suppose, is true of nearly all weddings.
