Joe and Lisa’s Wedding at the Merion

Great clients come from all walks of life — I still remember shooting the wedding of two chiropractors when I started rubbing my wrist and six people jumped up to adjust me. But who could be a better client for a wedding photographer than … another wedding photographer? It’s always a pleasure to shoot another photographer’s wedding — they have a lot of options to choose from, so it means they’re on board with whatever you want to do. And I don’t even have to tell you we had fun — a quick glance at the photos will show you more than I could say. Lisa was a bundle of emotions, from her fantastic smile to no small bit of tears. But really, all you need to know about these two is that they did a fist-bump during their Catholic cermeony. Awesome.

And their reception at the Merion was as wild, emotional, and intense a celebration as I’ve seen. And given that most of my weddings seem to be in a constant competition for craziest dancing, that says a lot.

  1. Ryan, we can’t express to you enough of how incredible of a job you did! It’s one thing to be able to be a photographer that takes breath taking, emotion filled, pictures but it’s an art that you’ve mastered to be able to catch EVERYTHING and not even realize your in the room.
There was not one single picture in that massive amounts of coverage that we didn’t laugh or smile or get choked up.

  2. Top-effin-notch. This “other photographer” surely will be beaming about these, and maybe even pick up a few of your tricks to use himself!

  3. I want to party with this couple. Like, pull up a chair, grab a beer, and really let loose. Love the elegant moments, and the sweet little moments, and the super fun moments.

  4. Can you do a auction please to 2nd for you lol. Ryan these are great On your reception photos the lighting is awesome! This wedding looks like a blast! Cant to see more outstanding stories from you Ryan.

  5. Awesome work Ryan – you never cease to amaze me! I love the shot with the bride laughing in front of the curtains, the back lit shot of them sitting in the pews and the big bridal party shot indoors. Fantastic use of light!

  6. So good. So good. So good. I don’t know how I keep being surprised. I don’t know these people but I’m upset I wasn’t at the wedding because it looked like such an awesome day. The symmetrical 4-sided flare in the pews is unreal.

  7. I absolutely love the ones with Lisa in the vehicle and the images with the curtains too. You have such a great eye, Ryan. That reception looks too fun, I wish I was there. These are all fantastic!

  8. Photographing another photographer’s event is one of the highest honor. I love the video light bridal portrait, the silhouette under the dome and the dude surfing at the reception.

  9. Great work! I love your use of light. What kind of modifier is that on the flash in the background of the reception pictures? It has a nice soft round look to it.

  10. this is a really great set Ryan. the shot with the couples dancing and their reflections in the dome above? outrageous. that is all sorts of gold. great reception flash work (as usual), awesome composites. this is a true photographer’s set of photographs.
